Somerset Web Services are an approved supplier of the Connecting Somerset scheme that provides funding for up to 50% off website development and e-business solutions. Grants of up to £3,000 are available to Somerset-based businesses on a 50% matched-funding basis.

There are up to four grants available in the following categories:

  • £500 For a static (or 'brochure') website for companies who either do not have a website or have just a temporary 'holding page' website.
  • £500 For a Content Management Solution (CMS) which allows the owner to update the website themselves.
  • £500 For an e-commerce website where online payments are used to purchase products or services.
  • £1,500 For one of many leading edge 'e-business' ventures, such as video conferencing, streaming video, VoIP, CRM telephony. website integration with SMS.

The scheme requires participants to undergo a 6 hour training course, which covers the essential features and components of a website. This ensures you are better qualified to check your website is legal, accessible and compliant. The course must be booked before you apply for the grant.

Connecting Somerset have endorsed five Adult Learning and Leisure (AL&L) providers in the following Somerset towns to provide regular courses:

AL&L courses cost £80 exc VAT and half is reimbursed when your grant is paid on completion of the given assignment.

There is either a Level 1 or 2 course you can take, either (or both) of which will be useful to most companies where new internet-based technology (and terminology) is often confusing.

The level 1 course covers:

  • Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)
  • How to interpret webstats
  • Website legislation, accessibility and compliance

The level 2 course covers:

  • Pay Per Click (PPC) basics
  • Internet Marketing Stategy
  • Updating websites

One other important point about the grant scheme is the assignment must be completed within a 3 month period from the initial application. Therefore, we advise, it is best to talk to us first about design and product considerations before applying for the grant. This maximises the time available for design, development and testing.
